[Food] Choong Steam Fish Restaurant @ Selayang

As heard from my dad, this restaurant is famous of 'Bighead Carp' (song-yu head)
Located at shoplot in Taman Selayang Baru, you wouldn't have expect great food here!
Once tried and I thought, definitely gonna write a review on it!

Choong Steam Fish Restaurant@Selayang

This restaurant is just like any dai-chao out there
I immediately draw my attention to the menu board on wall
They don't have a lot of dishes, but every dish has its own essence
The most signature dish must be their steam fish!

This is my second time here, while waiting for my family
The boss handed in their menu for me to view
(If photos are too small, please click to enlarge)

Basically there are 4 types of fish :
Bighead Carp (song-yu), Norway Tilapia (fei-zou-yu),
Cat-fish (bak-sou-gong), Grass Carp Belly (wan-yu-nam)

There're also 4 types of cooking method :
Steamed with ginger & soy sauce (qing-zheng)
Steamed with mushroom & black fungus (ga-heong-zheng)
Steamed ginger paste (geong-yong-zheng)
Steamed soy bean paste (jeong-zheng)

Other dishes including
Meat: Braised chicken with soy sauce and ginger, Braised pork belly,
Braised black vinegar pork, Steamed pork ribs with fermented black beans
(Not in menu : Steamed chicken with herbs, Pepper Pork & Chicken soup)

Other : Steamed fish intestines with soy bean paste,
Beancurd with shallot oil & dried shrimp

As well as vege (you-choy)

The prices are listed clearly
Bighead carp RM30/kg, Norway Tilapia RM33/kg
Grass carp belly RM40/kg, Cat-fish RM42/kg

All meats are RM17 each, braised pork belly RM18
Vege and beancurd are RM7 each

Waiting time is optimal, usually not very long
Since it takes some time for fish to be steamed.

My favourite "Ga-heong" Steamed Norway Tilapia.
The gravy tasted very good, goes well with bowl of rice!
Mainly I noticed their fermented black beans is different from outside
Theirs is black in colour and the shape of bean remains whereas the usual fermented bean from outside is brownish

We specially mentioned no chilli added in
Since my younger sis can't take spicy
Their chilli padi is extremely hot, if you can't take too hot, make sure don't eat it

Their fish is steamed to perfection
Even put underneath fire, it was not overcooked

Bighead Carp is favourable by my dad
We ordered "jeong-zheng" (steamed with bean paste) this time

For people who love to eat fish will definitely love fish head
However there are lots of bones in there, must be cautious
If you were to bring kids here, order tilapia for them
The bean paste smelled great, but very hot as well.

So all their dishes has only one portion
This steamed pork ribs with fermented black bean is just enough for us
As we are not meat lovers. The gravy is just nice.
The pork ribs is so tender.

Besides that, we ordered Braised chicken with soy sauce.
It actually tasted like rice wine, which is quite sweet.
We also had two plates of vege, which I didn't have photos of them.

Total damage : RM126.30
The price is reasonable, and most importantly, tasted awesome!

As their slogan says :
"If tasted good please introduce to your friends, if tasted awful please inform us."
I really love their steam fish !
